Close to the entrance is the taxi rank.
Taxis are expensive in Amsterdam. Tip: ask the driver
how much he expects the fare to cost.

OPENING HOURS

General Opening Hours of Shops:
- Mondays from 13:00 to 18:00 (department stores often from 11:00)
- Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 to 18:00 (Thursday until 21:00 in the city centre)
- Saturdays from 9:00 to 18:00
- Sunday opening hours: from noon to 17:00 in the city centre (not all shops are open)
- Supermarkets: most of them are open from 8:00 to 20:00. In the city center a lot of them
are open from 8:00 to 22:00, also on Sunday.

General Opening Hours of Museums:
Museums: Opening hours vary, however, most museums are open from 10:00 to 17:00 every day of the week, except Mondays.

General Opening Hours of Cafe's :
Most cafe's are open until 01:00. Many are open until 03:00 on the weekend.

General Opening Hours of Banks:
- Monday from 13:00 to 17:00
- Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 to 17:00

Post Offices:
Opening hours vary, however, most post offices are open from Monday through Friday from 9:00
until 17:00. Bigger ones are also open on Saturdays between 10:00 and 12:00 and from Monday through
Friday until 18:00. The head post office, Singel 250, (tram: 13-14-17, stop: Dam), is open from Monday through
Friday from 9:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:30



TELEPHONE:
Most local telephones are card-operated. You can buy them at post offices, tobacco stores and tourist offices.
The international access code to call abroad from the Netherlands is 00. When calling Amsterdam from abroad,
dial +31 (for Holland) and 20 (for Amsterdam).

TIPPING:
Service is always included. It is however customary to tip in restaurants, in bars,
and when paying for a taxi. As a general rule tipping between 5 - 10% should be alright.





TIP: you can buy a good CITY MAP OF AMSTERDAM at the Tourist Information (Central Station platform 2 and opposite Central Station) from a machine for 2 euro. The TRANSPORTATION MAP OF AMSTERDAM is sold at the GVB Tickets and Info next to the Tourist Information (Stationsplein)
